Our Company History
The name MacCrate has been prominent in the New York Metropolitan real estate market for more than 50 years. However, the background of the MacCrate firms dates to 1908 when L'Ecluse & Company was developing Plandome and subsequently parts of Montauk Point on Long Island. Over the years, the MacCrate organizations have represented some of the finest companies in real estate. They expanded and developed a respected real estate consulting and valuation organization completing engagements for the major banks, law firms and corporations in the Metropolitan New York area. The MacCrate organizations have always believed in service in a rapidly changing world. No place are changes taking place faster than in real estate. The numerous factors involved in these changes include the national economy, stock market fluctuations, the developing global markets, Virtual Reality, and real-time real estate valuations, to name only a few. MacCrate Associates has a vision and expertise in real estate that is directly related to the prior organizations that were an integral part of the real estate markets in the New York Metropolitan area. The former organizations were an outgrowth of acquisitions and mergers of a number of insurance agencies and several real estate firms by John MacCrate Jr., MAI, SRPA. These acquisitions included Townsend Real Estate, L'Ecluse & Company (formerly known as L'Ecluse, Washburn & Company), The Matthews Gunderman Agency, The William F. Sheehan Agency, the insurance accounts of Thomas O'Connell & Sons, Brisotti-Smith, The Rowland C. Lomer and E. Kenneth Naumer Agencies. Over the years, with the assistance of Jim MacCrate, MAI, SRA, CRE, and at various times Judy MacCrate, SRA, the MacCrate organizations diversified into real estate appraising and consulting for major trust companies, corporations and law firms specializing in unique and complex valuation situations, estate and gift tax and litigation services. |
